Our reporters – Paul Sherlock, Jean Friend and Bob Alston, joined dozens of others at Salford Older People’s Day held at Salford Museum and Art Gallery – which had a theme of being Age Proud.

The day included creative, sport and tech activities as well as discussions that reflect both the spirit of this year’s Older People’s Day theme – Age Proud – and the spirit of Talking About My Generation – changing negative narratives and stereotypes involving ‘older age’.

Bob said: “I really enjoyed the event, I always love listening to people’s stories, they have such great ones to tell. I met Alma, aged 93, who was in the Land Army in WWII and posted to Devon, where she milked cows, planted crops and tended to the farm. Then there was James, aged 96, who is still driving around Salford. There was definitely characters galore on the day!”

Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett joined the event and was given his own edition of our magazine – The Record.  And an open letter was also on display for people to sign about being Age Proud.

The day also included, music, reminiscence, activities on childhood and growing up in Salford, old vinyl records on display, changing the world of work, as well as an exhibition from Salford Art Club and our Talking About My Generation campaign.
